Share my story

Personal stories of loss, survival and growth through the experience of a workplace injury, occupational disease, or a fatality are at the heart of Threads of Life’s mission and values.

Through sharing your story, you can help others who are struggling in the aftermath of a workplace tragedy to feel understood and less alone, while reinforcing commitment to occupational health and safety and preventing future injuries, illnesses, and deaths. Writing can also be a very therapeutic practice – whether you choose to share it with others or not.

Share your experience with others

If you’d like to share your experience with others, we would like to work with you. You don’t have to be a great writer to tackle this – we’re just looking for your experience in your own words. That’s what’s most meaningful to those who will read your story.

We have many different opportunities to share your experience of workplace tragedy with others through Threads of Life. We share personal stories regularly in our print newsletter, and on our blog. Throughout the year, we share our family members’ words in smaller and larger ways through various campaigns.

Sharing your story through this form does not mean you’re committed to sharing it publicly – we don’t publish without your permission! There is no obligation. We will discuss any next steps with you. If you’d prefer to send us an email, you can email Susan at [email protected] Opens in new tab.

What's your story?

The questions below are designed to lead you explain how you’ve been impacted by a workplace tragedy within a supportive framework.
Whether your experience is an injury or illness to yourself or a loved one, or the death of a family member, tell us a bit about what life was like before the accident or diagnosis. What did you or your loved one like to do? What were your dreams and aspirations?
What happened on the day of the accident or diagnosis? How did you get the news? Explain what you know of what happened in the workplace to cause the accident or illness.
If there was an investigation, court case, or inquest, tell us a bit about that process and what it was like for you. Were there any lessons learned for workplaces?
What is your life like today? Whether you’re dealing with injury, illness, or the death of a loved one, where do you feel you are on your grief journey now? What is your “new normal”?
What do you want your readers to remember/think about? Many of our readers are people who have also experienced a work-related tragedy. Is there a message you would like to leave with them?
