Welcome, our newest Threads of Life board members!

The volunteer board of directors for Threads of Life plays a vital role, helping to steer the organization and offering their experience and expertise. Many board members are longtime volunteers and partners. This month, Threads of Life welcomes three new directors to our board. The new members were elected at the Annual General Meeting, June 13 2025. A huge thank you to outgoing board members Bill Stunt, Shelley Dauphinee, Erin Pitruzella and Grant Van Eaton for all your contributions. Meet your newest board members:
Rebecca Levick — Rebecca came to Threads of Life in 2018 after the death of her sister a year earlier. Rebecca is a trained Volunteer Family Guide and has been involved with Steps for Life as a volunteer and family spokesperson. Rebecca brings a background in human resources management, and currently works as Senior Manager of HR Talent for the BC Liquor Distribution Branch.
“I am excited and honoured to be joining the board as Threads of Life has supported my family and myself through the toughest times,” Rebecca says. “I want to be able to give back and work with the board to help ensure Threads of Life continues to support the all-too-many families impacted by workplace tragedies. Threads of Life played a pivotal role in my healing journey after the loss of my sister. Having a safe space surrounded by others impacted by workplace tragedies allows for open and honest healing.”
Tammy McCabe — Tammy has been a key member of the planning committee for Steps for Life St. John’s since 2010. She works as the Manager of Communications and Industry Relations for the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Safety Association. She began her career as an OHS Coordinator and is a registered safety professional with BCRSP.
“With nearly 20 years in construction health and safety,” Tammy says, “I have witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of workplace injuries and fatalities. My passion for injury prevention drives my volunteer work with Threads of Life, where my commitment extends beyond the job site. I am dedicated to ensuring that families and workers affected by workplace tragedies are seen, heard, and supported — and I believe that together, we can build a future where work doesn’t hurt.”
Scott McKay — With a background in work physiology, Scott spent his career in health and safety, working for the Industrial Accident Prevention Association and Workplace Safety and Prevention Services before joining Threads of Life in 2014 as the Director of Partnerships and Fundraising. Since retiring in 2024, Scott has been volunteering for Threads of Life and is happy to be able to join the Board of Directors.
“I’m excited to serve on Threads of Life’s Board of Directors,” Scott says. “I’m passionate about our shared mission, ‘To help families heal through a community of support and to promote the elimination of life-altering workplace injuries, illnesses and deaths,’ and it’s a privilege to be able to help make that mission a reality.”
