McGuinty Government Honours Threads of Life with
Award of Distinction
TORONTO Ontario - December 4, 2008. On Thursday November 27th, Threads of Life – the Association for Workplace Tragedy Family Support – was presented with a Victims Services Award of Distinction at a ceremony held at Queen’s Park.
Presented by Attorney General Chris Bentley, the award recognizes both victims of crime whose courage and dedication raise the profile of victims’ issues in Ontario, and volunteers and professionals who provide outstanding service to victims. “The inspiring efforts of these outstanding people and organizations stand out as a tribute to the dedication and hard work of victim services providers across the province,” said Attorney General Chris Bentley. “Our award winners are excellent role models for others. As a government, we share their commitment to victims through new services and support.”
Shirley Hickman, Executive Director of Threads of Life accepted the award on behalf of the Association. “Over the last three years, Threads of Life has been working closely with the Office of the Attorney General and the Office for Victims of Crime. Our successful partnership has resulted in the development of key resources and support programs for Ontario victims of workplace tragedy. We’ll continue to meet the needs of families struggling in the wake of a traumatic life-changing event.” Ruth Campbell, Chair of the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) stated, “These award recipients are talented and compassionate people who provide valuable support to victims of crime,” Ms Campbell continued “The OVC is proud to participate in this awards program to recognize their accomplishments.”
Threads of Life is a national charitable organization dedicated to supporting families along their journey of healing who have suffered from a workplace fatality, life-altering workplace injury or occupational disease. Threads of Life provides families with one-on-one peer support, links to community resources and opportunities to promote workplace injury prevention at the grassroots level. Threads of Life currently supports over 800 families from across the country
